2002
Baby’s Got a Temper

Their first single in five years came out on 1 July 2002 and reached number five in the UK. Leeroy is gone, there are three on stage, and the album never came.

By day you can move the stickers. At night the spotlights come on and the three take the stage.

The cover. The sticker beside it is our own drawing: a cow and a bottle of milk. Cows are the main audience in the video: the band plays to them at a derelict funfair, and the milk is then sold over the fence.

The title. Baby’s Got a Temper: a single outside any album. In 2008 the band’s official site even listed it as an EP. The UK CD has three versions: the main mix, a dub and an instrumental.

  • №5Number five on the UK Singles Chart, number five in Canada, number three in Spain and Greece, number seven in Finland.
  • 5Five years of silence: the first single since Smack My Bitch Up (1997) and the first without Leeroy, who left in 2000.
  • 100The tempo is 100 BPM, slower than the usual rave tracks. It began as Keith’s demo NNNN (No Name No Number) for his Flint project; Liam reworked it almost completely.
  • BEEPRadio cut it: at its BBC Radio 1 premiere the word “Rohypnol” was masked, and the track was accused of “glamorising” the drug. Critics panned it too; NME compared it to glue.
  • 0Songs on an album: it was meant for the next record, but Liam reworked that album and the track was left off Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004). Liam later disowned it.
